Nothing Makes a Glow-in-the-Dark Phone After Asking Customers What They Want
Nothing has taken the ‘social’ part of its product marketing seriously and asked its followers worldwide to make a new edition of its Flagship Phone (2a) Plus. After receiving more than 900 entries from 47 countries, the company crowned five winners and worked with them to develop the final product of their ideas: a glow-in-the-dark phone.
This is the first Nothing’s Community Edition projectand involved input not only on the hardware side but also on software, packaging, and marketing, making the brand entirely shaped by it. These are the only areas that have seen change following co-creation. The specifications and features in this version are the same as the first version that was released in July 2024. There is nothing to be proud of. actually the key concepts of society and goes as far as to say, “Society is something that other brands talk about, but Nothing takes pride in bringing this to life with a product launch.”
The co-created system for Nothing’s flagship phone retains the company’s identity, which appeared in the first version. It’s the same enclosure that allows users to see the phone’s internal components, such as ribbons and screws, as well as the three glyph lights that illuminate the back of the phone. In addition to those lights, a new phosphorescence interface dimly illuminates the background with its soft, subtle light. The company’s designers experimented with various materials and colors to meet the light-in-the-dark requirements of the winner and settled on this green phosphorescent material.
On the software side, the winning ideas led to a new “Connected Collection” of six wallpapers that includes AI tools and some digital design.
There’s some glow-in-the-dark work going on in the phone’s new packaging, too. The new design features some bright elements to match the new design of the phone. The publication’s marketing campaign also complements the winning ideas and includes the slogan “Find your light. Take your light” with a focus on exploring one’s inner strength.
The Phone (2a) Plus Community Edition will be available for purchase in all markets from November 12th at nothing.tech for around $519 (converted from £399). There are only 1,000 units of this model, so you’ll have to hurry to grab yours.
It seems that Nothing is really working to get its community more involved in its design process. This was its biggest public project to date, and as we speak, it is working on developing software and collaborative content. In 2022, it also introduces the new role of the Board of Public Observer, responsible for representing what consumers want at the level of Board of Directors meetings.
