Meta AI gets access to Reuters news content in a multi-year deal

Another day, another book contributes to the rise of AI. First, the popularity of Time again Dotdash Meredith partnered with OpenAI to license their property, now Reuters gives Meta’s AI chatbot access to news content to get answers to current events and news questions, Axios first reported.

Basically, the multi-year agreement allows US users to now get real-time news insights from Meta’s AI chat tool, these answers quote and link Reuters’ relevant issues.

The deal marks Meta’s first AI news deal, but Reuters has worked with the company as a fact-checking partner since 2020. “We are constantly iterating and working to improve our products, and with the Meta partnership ReutersMeta AI can answer news-related questions with summaries and links Reuters content,” said a spokesperson for Meta.

The two did not reveal whether Meta would have access to it Reuters’ library for training its learning language model, Llama. The exact figures of the deal are also unclear, but sources report that Reuters is receiving compensation for this access. Cash is not the only form of payment made by companies in such deals with the devil — *cough* AI (Lionsgate gets a custom AI model to produce and edit in its deal with Runway).
