The attack on the Turkish airline is causing death, the minister said
An explosion was reported outside the airline’s headquarters near Ankara, in what authorities described as a terrorist attack.
The country’s Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya wrote on X: “Unfortunately, we have martyrs and injured people.”
The first images shown by the NTV television channel were of a large cloud of smoke in front of the entrance of the Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI), located 40 kilometers outside the capital.
According to local media, gunshots were heard.
They said the explosion happened during a shift change, and workers had to be directed to shelters.
Firefighters and medical teams were dispatched to the scene.
Ankara City Mayor Mansur Yavas said in a statement that he was “deeply saddened” by the news.
“I wish God’s mercy to the martyrs and a speedy recovery to the injured. We condemn terrorism. I’m sorry.”
TAI is a key player in the Turkish aerospace industry, designing, developing and manufacturing various aircraft for commercial and military use.
The explosion happened as a major trade fair for the defense and aerospace industries was underway in Istanbul this week.
This is a developing story. More updates to follow.
