Foster Vows to Throw More in Conceicao’s Second Game
O’Shaquie Foster (22-3, 12 KOs) says he will throw a lot of punches in his rematch with WBC super featherweight champion Robson Conceição (19-2-1, 9 KOs) on November 2 at the Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona. , New York. It will be difficult for Foster to resist his usual throwback style that he has used throughout his professional career.
Foster, 31, lost his WBC title to 2016 Olympic gold medalist earlier this year on July 6 in Newark, Jersey. In that fight, Foster didn’t throw enough punches, fighting defensively Shakur-esque style and intrigue by Brazilian go-getter Conceicao.
Interestingly, Foster felt he did enough to earn the win, and still feels that way three months later. That’s a concern because it was obvious from watching the fight that he seemed to work hard in the first round of the Conceicao fight and he should have lost by more.
Points
116-112 – Conceicao
115-113 – Conceicao
116-112 – Foster
Foster fought the same way in his previous fight against Abraham Nova on February 16 at Madison Square Garden in New York, getting knocked out by him again. The judges, however, gave Foster a 12-round split decision, but many fans felt that Nova should have been given a decision win. I watched the fight live, and I had Nova 117-111.
Foster’s fighting style, which is a poor man’s carbon copy of Shakur Stevenson, is very defensive, and he doesn’t engage enough to win rounds outright. He fights in short bursts and then backs off looking to make his opponents miss the way Shakur did.
Having those two share the same card on July 6 at the Prudential Center was pure poison because the fans got two fighters in common in the co-feature and the main event. It’s no wonder they started flocking to the area during Shakur’s fight because they were fed up.
Top Rank made a mistake by putting Shakur and Foster on the same card. They can’t keep doing that because it’s a fan base.
“The war was easy. I didn’t see where the judges made that decision. I only realized that I could have worked harder and let my hands go in certain situations,” Foster said of his loss to Robson Conceição earlier this year on July 6 in Newark, New Jersey.
“There are many things I can do in that ring. “I feel like I can just put some combinations together,” O’Shaquie said. “I could have done more. I’m looking to let my hands move a lot. If you watch his fight, he fights the same way every time. He doesn’t change much.”
Foster is too set in his ways to change. That Shakur pull-back style that Foster has is very focused on him without breaking him as a fighter when he tries to fight aggressively, and I don’t think he can change physically.
