In the less crowded stage at New York Comic Con, the words that can’t get out of my head talk about a game that I can’t stop thinking about. A whole swath of great actors from Red Dead Redemption II I came to New York Comic Con this year to talk about a game that first hit store shelves in 2018. To the fans who played it then, and who play it now, those real characters, the people who spoke that dialogue and— in some cases—throw each other onstage for mo-cap, somehow seem like figments.
Why is the cast of an almost six-year-old game even at Comic Con 2024? Maybe because Rockstar hopes to promote that originality Red Dead Redemption and DLC An endless nightmare finally coming to PC. It only took Rockstar 14 years to bring the open world cowboy sim to the PC platform for players to play legally, but I estimate that there are many people who still enjoy these games years or decades after release.
Because I am confident as I am. I can’t stop thinking Red Dead Redemption II. In my head, I still remember the scene of Arthur Morgan, portrayed by Roger Clark, and Sister Calderón (Irene DeBari) sitting on a bench in front of the train, talking about the essence of a good person and what we can do. for our lives when we know that our time will soon come.
“It was the first time I’d ever seen a cowboy admit he was scared to death,” Clark told the crowd.
Every other cast member riding the stagecoach to Comic Con sounds like their character is unusual. Many didn’t have to do much more than voice their voices to portray the insane vision of Dutch van der Linde (Benjamin Byron Davis) and the punk and deadbeat father—and finally freed—of John Marston (Rob Wiethoff). Clark doesn’t sound like his character. The phrase was born from a friend who often imitated his father’s protective, western tone.
Rockstar is notorious for casting unknown relatives in its games. The developer also hires hundreds of them, but the VO host of the main actors on the stage could not examine their characters too closely, or remember many lines of the play that most of them started working in about 11 years. past. They are actors, but that doesn’t make them as sharp and well-spoken as acting characters.
When a fan asked the cast about their favorite lines, few could point to anything specific. Davis delivered the line “this is America, you can always cut a deal,” a line that stands out because it comes at such a critical point, right before Dutch starts to discover the worst version of himself. Peter Blomquist, who played “snake” Micah Bell, said his favorite line was “Dutch, come over here and dance with me,” dialogue that—of course—is nowhere in the play. Blomquist swore the dialogue was somewhere in the game’s cutting room.
One prominent fan asked any question The Red Dead A fan wondered while playing this game. What was ‘the plan?’” Well, the answer is, there wasn’t one. There would be no plan when the world told the Dutch and the rest of the Van der Linde gang that there was no place for them, not with their ideas—thin as they were.
“Make a lot of noise, make a lot of money, and get the hell out of here,” Davis quotes in the game.
What is the plan for the future The Red Dead? “The Red Dead 3 is already out,” said Clark. “It came out yesterday, after lunch.”
