Benavidez Sr. Looking for Artur Beterbiev After David Morrell

David Benavidez’s father, Jose Benavidez Sr, says he wants undisputed light heavyweight champion Artur Beterbiev if they successfully defeat WBA ‘regular’ champion David Morrell in their January 25 fight.

Jose Sr. he thinks Beterbiev would be a good fight for Benavidez (29-0, 24 KOs). He would also like Dmitry Bivol for his son because it will give him a chance to beat the person who defeated Canelo Alvarez in 2022.

Jose Sr. he’s still bitter that Canelo chose not to fight Benavidez all these years and talked about a $200 million asking price to fight him. If Bivol loses the rematch with Beterbiev, it won’t be fair to fight him.

Artur Beterbiev (21-0, 20 KOs) will be the guy Benavidez will be fighting if he defeats Bivol in their rematch in 2025. A second fight has not been confirmed, but it is possible.

Benavidez’s worst nightmare would be Beterbiev losing a rematch with Bivol and the two fighters meeting in a trilogy. Benavidez will have to wait for the third fight between those guys before he gets a shot at the belts.

“David’s next fight is David Morrell. Everyone is happy about it. “We have been trying to do that fight for three years, but I believe that David Morrell needed more experience to show the world that he deserves this fight,” said Jose Benavidez Sr. on Probox TV with David Benavidez fighting David Morrell from Cuba next. on January 25.

Apparently, Team Benavidez has not been trying hard to make a fight with Morrell for the past three years because they were the ones who ignored him. If they wanted a war with Morrell it would have happened a long time ago.

They waited until now, after Morrell’s underwhelming performance against Radivoje Kalajdzic on August 3 at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles, before they decided they wanted to fight him.

“Davide called him and said, ‘Hey, I want to fight. Let’s make it happen.’ It was done right away. “I’m very excited to fight a young talent, a tough fighter, and I think it’s going to be a tough fight,” Jose Sr. said. about how the war with Morrell ended up being done.

“I hope we can get a chance to fight Beterbiev. He just won on Saturday. So, hopefully, we can get that, but right now, we’re focused on David Morrell. We have to look good to advance to the next stage,” said Benavidez Sr.

If Benavidez loses to Morrell, Jose Sr. he will have to decide which direction to take his son. Will he move him back down to 168 or stick it at 175, hoping to take one of the belts after Beterbiev leaves?
