Sony announced in January that it plans to make a movie adaptation of its 2015 PlayStation game Until Dawn and the project is moving quickly through production. Earlier this month, director David F. Sandberg posted on Instagram that the film has wrapped shooting, and today Sony’s production company Screen Gems announced that the film’s release date will be April 25, 2025.
Until Dawn has become a cult favorite among horror fans, with a branching narrative that offers many different endings based on the player’s choices. If you haven’t had a chance to experience Supermassive Games’ first title yet, the game just got a spooky season from Ballistic Moon. One of the biggest questions about creating a film from the source of a game is which of the many possible outcomes a team can choose in terms of plot? So far, the signs seem promising. Director Sandberg has a strong track record for horror with He lights up again Annabelle: Creation. The final script was written by Gary Dauberman, who worked with Sandberg Annabelle: Creation and words for others Annabelle movies, It (2017), Chapter two again Nun.
The show had an important cast, including Hayden Panetierre and Rami Malek. For the film, Screen Gems has tapped a cast including Ella Rubin, Michael Cimino, Ji-young Yoo, Belmont Cameli, Odessa A’zion and Maia Mitchell. Peter Stormare will reprise his role as Dr. Hill in the film version.
