Ben Whittaker Needs to Produce X-rays, says Spencer Oliver

Commentator Spencer Oliver says that light heavyweight contender Ben Whittaker must show X-rays to prove that he was injured when he fell outside the ring during the fifth round of his fight with Liam Cameron last Saturday night at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh.

Oliver feels Whittaker has been exposed, and many fans believe he gave up to avoid being beaten by Cameron, 33.

Whittaker (8-0-1, 5 KOs) was unable to continue the fight, which would not have gone well for him when he left the ring. He had to be taken off the field in a wheelchair. He reportedly sprained his ankle in the fall.

The fight went from bad to worse for the 2020 Olympic silver medalist Whittaker from the third round when he was heavily beaten by Cameron (23-6-1, 10 KOs), who was not expected to compete. .

In the fifth round, Whittaker was seen holding on to Cameron and leaning on him as the two clashed against the ropes, causing both fighters to tumble out of the ring. Whitaker sat down and could no longer fight. The match went to the judges’ scorecards:

– 58-57 – Cameron
– 58-57 – Whittaker
– 58-58

“I said, ‘We need to see X-rays,'” Spencer Oliver told Sport Boxing about wanting to see X-rays on Ben Whittaker’s injured ankle. “He could swallow on the face of it. He was exposed in many ways that night. It started to go wrong for him, and he thought, ‘Where’s that technical ability to reverse it?’

“Ben Whittaker needs to show the evidence, the X-rays, to show that he really has them [an injury]. If he doesn’t, it will be the grand jury. We were talking about him as a star. He had everything that was needed outside the ring, inside the ring.”

Whittaker should have shown an X-ray or issued a doctor’s note confirming his ankle injury so that fans would have no doubts.

“Cameron was winning the war. I think Ben got off easy with the results. Was he exposed, did he swallow? He became angry very quickly. He was dragged into a dogfight. In the fifth round, when they faced each other, it was like WWE. He took him out of the ring,” said Oliver.

It is obvious that there will have to be a rematch because Whittaker cannot leave this fight without showing that he can beat this young man.
