Jannik Sinner has established himself on the ATP Tour in 2024, marking his authority at the highest level.
In a performance that cemented his outstanding season, Sinner muscled past Novak Djokovic 7-6(4), 6-3 in Sunday’s Rolex Shanghai Masters. In claiming his seventh major title on the 2024 tour, World No. 1 claimed his best 65th win of the season, which highlights the improvement he has made in his game.
“I have changed some things. I feel like I’m physically ready to play as long as possible at the highest level possible,” said Sinner, who improved to 8-2 on the season against top-five players on hard courts. “Mentally I’m ready to accept all the difficult situations on the field, and I think it’s the biggest step I’ve made.
“I’m just trying to stay calm and keep working hard. It doesn’t matter if you have a good week or a bad week, I’m just trying to improve every day, to be mature enough to understand what works, and I feel like that has had a big impact on me this year, and hopefully it will help me next year as well.”

Sinner, who earned the ATP Year-End No. 1 presented by the PIF honors after winning Saturday’s semi-final against Tomas Machac, held his momentum to improve to 24-8 in tie-breaks in 2024 after closing out the opening set. From there, the Italian clicked into gear to become Shanghai’s junior champion after one hour and 37 minutes.
“I’m going to enjoy this,” added Sinner, who became the first player to win three ATP Masters 1000 titles in one season since Rafael Nadal in 2018. “It’s a very special moment, winning any tournament is amazing, but especially. this is here, so we’ll enjoy it, sure, but nothing crazy.”
Djokovic was looking to become just the third player to win 100 tour-level titles (Connors, Federer), but he didn’t slow down against the World No. 1. With his third consecutive victory against Djokovic, Sinner equaled the Lexus ATP for both. Head2Head series at 4-4.
Sinner, who became the first player to win more than six ATP Tour titles in a single season since Andy Murray won nine in 2016, credits the environment in which he works for his long success on court in 2024.
“I will continue to work hard, me and my team. I have these two new members in my team where I feel like I can learn a lot of things,” said Sinner who started working with Ulises Badio and fitness coach Marco Panichi last month. “And Simone [Vagnozzi] and Darren [Cahill]a good combination of coaches and the surrounding team, it helps me a lot, it’s very comfortable to live with them.
“I always feel like it’s become part of the family, so it’s nice. We will continue to work hard. We’re going to try new things off the court, to see what works for me or not. I feel like the work there will never stop, so I’m looking forward to that.”
