Chris Evans Breaks Down Surprise Marvel Return

Marvel may always want you to stop spoilers from flying whenever one of their new movies drops, but they can’t stop themselves—or their stars—from doing it by talking to the media.

Once you’ve seen it Deadpool and Wolverineyou’ll know by now Chris Evans is making a cameo: not as a geriatric Captain America of The end of the gamebut as Johnny “The Human Torch” Storm since 2005 Fantastic Four the movie. Surprise!

Although the actor is rumored to be renewing his contract with Disney to return to future MCUs projects as Captain America, he apparently could not officially opt out of the Johnny Storm cameo. However, as Entertainment Weekly explains, her friendship with Ryan Reynolds made agreeing to do so an easy decision. “I was very happy. Ryan is a great host. He just shot me a text saying, ‘Listen, it might be a while, but would you be interested in bringing something back from 20 years ago?’ I said, ‘Oh my God! Of course it is,’” Evans said, after making a surprise appearance alongside the film’s other stars at Marvel’s. Deadpool and Wolverine Celebrating life panel at San Diego Comic-Con. “Honestly, Ryan might be the only guy I could do that for because he just got the Midas touch. His self-awareness makes him almost invincible. He makes a joke before the audience has a chance to make a joke, so if you’re going to revisit a character and have to find a way to make it work, Ryan’s jokes make almost everything work, so you feel spontaneous. a sense of security.”

As for the scene in question, Deadpool and Wolverine meet Johnny in “The Void,” a place where discarded Marvel characters are frozen before being removed forever. At first, Deadpool believes he has met the legendary Captain America, but finds out that he is the fictional Human Torch, instead. The cameo was “really quick” and “very easy,” according to Evans. “I had to fly very quickly, do a few days of filming, and fly out. For me, it was very easy. Mainly because when we get Johnny, he’s meant to be a bit of a rundown, so the costume didn’t have to be pure. Those first two movies, that’s when Marvel was really trying to figure out where it was. So everything has to be very clear and have a lot of meetings, a lot of ideas. This was like, ‘Yeah, we know. We saw it.’”

Still, it was nice to see the Marvel star, now better known for playing the marquee Avenger, back in action as his former character. Just in time, before the character grows up again to become Joseph Quinn in the upcoming Marvel reboot! Did you enjoy Evans’ cao, or are you (like me) more excited for the return of Kelly Hu’s Lady Deathstrike and her blink-and-you’ll-miss-it fight with Wesley Snipe’s Blade? Now thatthe cinema.
