Roger Federer returned to the Rolex Shanghai Masters in a doubleheader showdown on Friday.
Before taking to the court, the Swiss legend faced off against old rival Novak Djokovic as the 99-time tour-level champion exited his quarter-final match after beating #NextGenATP star Jakub Mensik.
“Hey Old Man,” Federer said to the Serb, laughing, as the two shook hands.
The 20-year-old Grand Slam champion who won the ATP Masters 1000 event in Shanghai twice (2014, 2017), is partnered with Eason Chan, a prominent Chinese singer and actor. They defeated the pairing of China’s top player in the PIF ATP Rankings Zhang Zhizhen, and table tennis champion Fan Zhendong in a simple match. These four treated the fans to a great exchange.
The 103-time tour number one also visited Shanghai last year to accept the Athlete of the Year Award at the tournament, celebrating his outstanding career.
During their match, Djokovic and Federer played 50 times, and the Serbian took the Lexus ATP Head2Head series 27-23.
