Vasily Lomachenko Considers Retirement – Boxing News 24
IBF lightweight champion, Vasily Lomachenko, is considering retiring from the sport. Lomachenko was in talks recently about a unification fight against WBA 135-lb champion Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis before deciding to take the rest of the year off.
Mike Coppinger said on X, “There is a lot of talk that Lomachenko is going to retire.”
Is Tank Causing Lomachenko On Purpose?
That would interfere with Tank’s team’s plans to fight the famous Loma, who has been working as a master for a long time and is a novice. Lomachenko first called Gervonta Davis in 2017but the Baltimore native showed no interest for obvious reasons.
Lomachenko was on top of the world, and he was going to be a nightmare for Tank to fight. Davis is a fighter who relies on his own strength and can be taken out easily, even by fighters with side skills.
Instead of fighting him, Tank focuses on smaller threats. He waited until 2024 before showing interest in facing Lomachenko. Some boxing fans believe that Gervonta waited on purpose aging Lomachenko. In other words, the younger Tank Davis waited until Lomachenko was older before he chose to fight him, knowing he would beat him.
As a novice, Lomachenko had 396 fights, losing only one. He has been in the sport longer than most fighters. Celebrity Net Worth estimates Lomachenko’s net worth to be $8 million. So, he doesn’t hurt because of money. He lives in Odesa, Ukraine.
Lomachenko Should Be Unbeaten
The 11-year champion, Lomachenko (18-3, 12 KOs), will turn 37 on February 17 and is coming off an impressive 11-round victory against former 135-lb unification champion George Kambosos Jr. on May 12 in Perth, Australia.
Lomachenko was the subject of controversial losses to Devin Haney and Teofimo Lopez, both of whom he felt he had won. He was not happy with his loss against Orlando Salido in his second fight in 2014.
Most of the fans who saw Haney’s fight gave Lomachenko a comfortable victory and felt that the judges gave him the hole that night. With three fights under his belt, Lomachenko still has to go undefeated and become a bigger star than he is now.
If Lomachenko isn’t happy with his 12-round unanimous decision loss against Haney on May 20, 2023, in Las Vegas, it’s understandable why he might lose interest in boxing.
