Sei Young Kim leads LPGA Shanghai with 10-under 62

SHANGHAI — Sei Young Kim, seeking her first win of the season, opened with a 10-under 62 on Thursday to lead the first round of the Buick LPGA Shanghai tournament.

The South Korean shot 28 over his first nine holes at Qizhong Garden Golf Club, including an eagle on the 17th, then came home with a 34 over his second nine holes.

It was his lowest round of the year and comes after finishing third in September at the final LPGA event, the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship.

France’s Celine Boutier was two shots back with a 64, while American Lucy Li was three back with a 65.

In a strong field, four players carded 66 to trail by four shots: Ireland’s Leona Maguire, Taiwan’s Peiyun Chien, China’s Muni He and Thailand’s Chanettee Wannasaen.

Seven players were 67 and five shots back.

The LPGA’s top two players, Nelly Korda and Lydia Ko, are not on the field this week. Both are entered next week in the BMW Ladies Championship in South Korea.
