President’s Tournament of Roses Ed Morales was announced today on the front steps of the iconic Tournament House as the King made his grand entrance Elton John’s the hit single “Philadelphia Freedom”—a song that is credited with serving as the theme song for his band WTT.
King’s selection as Grand Marshal is easily linked to the theme of this year’s show: “The Best Day Ever!”, celebrating life’s best moments.
Billie Jean King’s influence extends beyond sports and the tennis court. Named one of the “Most Important Americans of the 20th Century” by LIFE magazine, she is the first woman to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom, and will be the first female athlete to receive the Congressional Gold Medal.
King is also the founder of the Women’s Sports Foundation, the Women’s Tennis Association, and the Billie Jean King Foundation.
As Grand Marshal, the King will ride down Colorado Boulevard, usher in the New Year with the pomp and tradition the Parade is known for and participate in the pregame ceremony at the College Football Playoff Quarterfinal in the 111th Rose Bowl Game.
“Being from Long Beach and growing up in Southern California I have fond memories of watching this parade with my family and I feel honored to be named the Grand Marshal of the 2025 Rose Parade,” said King. “This show is a beautiful celebration of joy and community, and truly represents the “Best Day Ever” for all who attend or watch.”
