The PBC made it official today to defend Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis’ WBA lightweight belt against Lamont Roach on December 14th on Amazon Prime Video at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas.
There is no name on the undercard for the Davis vs. Roach, but it would have to be good enough to motivate fans to shell out $75.95 to order this on PPV. If the Premier Boxing champions include David Benavidez vs. David Morrell in the co-feature, that would be a huge value addition.
It’s no surprise that fan reaction to the Tank-Roach fight today is almost entirely negative, with people calling it “Trash” and “cherry picking.” Several fans favored the matchup, and seemed to feel that Roach (25-1-1, 10 KOs) would provide value. Those followers are very numerous, even though they are the ones who speak softly about the war.
This fight was leaked a long time ago, but now it is official. What is yet to be revealed is the asking price of the PPV. That’s when the real backlash will come from the boxing community, Tank Davis insulted.
When Premier Boxing champions want to entertain, they will price the event at $20 or less to reflect their disparity. That probably won’t happen. The price tag for the Tank-Roach event will be $75, and fans will have to take it or leave it.
It wouldn’t be a big deal for Tank Davis to pick another soft opponent if he has been fighting quality opposition in his recent fights or any of them during his 11 year career for this matter. Unfortunately, Tank has always been down-of-the-barrel, putting together his record and not taking any risks with his career.
