People who visited the Lego website on the night of October 4 were greeted by a banner with gold coins emblazoned with the company’s logo, saying that the “Lego coin” is now officially out. It even promised “secret rewards” to those who would buy. But Lego wasn’t exactly the first to launch an official cryptocurrency, and that’s for sure Brick fanthe buy button led to an external cryptocurrency website selling “LEGO Tokens” for Ethereum. The website, it seems, has been hijacked by bad actors who changed its banner and used it for some kind of crypto scam.
As users of the Lego subreddit noted, the incident happened overnight at Lego headquarters. The company responded quickly, however, and removed the unauthorized banner and links. As of this writing, Lego Fortnite the interactive banner is backed up, and the “buy now” link leads to the collection. Lego told Engadget that no user accounts were compromised and it has identified the cause of the problem. It also said it is taking measures to prevent anything similar from happening again in the future. However, the company declined to share details about that “cause” or the measures it uses.

“On October 5, 2024 (October 4 evening in the US), an unauthorized banner briefly appeared on LEGO.com. It was immediately removed, and the problem was resolved. No user accounts were compromised, and customers can continue shopping as usual. . . . The cause has been found and we are taking steps to prevent this from happening again.”
