Lactaid-free milk recalled in 27 states from Florida to New York due to high risk of allergic reactions

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a warning for Lactaid milk, warning that it may contain trace amounts of almonds not listed on the label. The FDA has warned that people who are allergic to almonds, or very allergic to almonds, are at risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if contaminated milk is used.
No illnesses have been reported so far.
Lactaid, a type of lactose-free milk, is made from milk by adding the enzyme lactase, which breaks down lactose, making it easier to digest.
An estimated 30 to 60 million Americans are lactose intolerant, including 80% of African Americans and Native Americans, and more than 90% of Asian Americans.
Restocking applies to a limited number of 96-oz. plastic containers of Lactaid frozen milk from HP Hood. The recalled products include whole milk, 1% milk, 2% milk, fat-free milk, and calcium-fortified milk, with expiration dates of November and December 2024.
Affected milk containers were shipped in the first half of September to retailers and wholesalers in 27 states: Alabama, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas City, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina , Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.
HP Hood is a privately held company with 3,400 employees and approximately $3.5 billion in annual revenue, according to the report. Forbes. The Massachusetts-based dairy company was founded in 1846, and distributes Hood brand milk, in addition to non-dairy products including Lactaid and Almond Breeze almond milk.
Consumers who purchased the products may return them to the retail locations where the purchases were made for a full refund or exchange, or call Hood Consumer Affairs at (800) 242-2423.
The problem was detected as a result of routine maintenance programs.
