Tyson Fury Says Age Was Gained on Joshua in Dubois Loss
Tyson Fury says age is against Anthony Joshua on Saturday night against IBF heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois in London. Fury feels that Joshua, 35, (28-4, 23 KOs) has faced a much younger fight, Dubois, 27, (22-2, 21 KOs), who knows how to hit.
Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, has done a good job of hiding AJ’s age by comparing him to a team that is undefeated in his last four fights after losing two in a row to Oleksandr Usyk. Hearn threw Joshua with talent that belies his age, and we saw the result tonight.
At first Fury dismissed Joshua’s defeat saying it could happen to anyone in the heavyweight division, which is true. However, as he spoke more, he admitted that Joshua’s age was a factor.
There is not much that Joshua and his promoter Hearn can do about his aging because there is no fountain of youth that he can drink to become young again. The only options are to avoid dangerous guys like Dubois and focus on fighting weak boxers who can’t replicate what we saw tonight.
“It’s heavyweight boxing. [Stuff] it happened. He is struck by a spark. It could be me. In the heavyweight category, this is what is happening,” said Tyson Fury to the media in response to Anthony Joshua’s defeat by Daniel Dubois on Saturday night.
“What’s wrong is what always happens in heavyweight boxing. A nice right hand to the end of the chin, that was it. I don’t know. It is up to the man and whatever he wants to do. If he has good intentions to come back again, he can make his own decisions. He is a big boy.
“I thought it was a 50-50 fight. Dubois is very young. He is 27 years old. Joshua is 35 years old, my age. Years wait for no one. You get hit with those fists. You don’t see many heavyweights get hit, get knocked down, get back up, and keep going.
“I’ve got to fight my man, the rabbit,” Fury said of his rematch with Oleksandr Usyk on Dec. 21. “I’m going to get all my belts back. I assure you. After I fought Usyk in December and beat him, I’m going to get back all the belts I shouldn’t have lost. Then I’ll fight Dubois and take that away from him again. That’s my plan.”
