Franchise, HBO’s parody of the superhero genre, has been canceled after one season, according to Deadline.
Created by Jon Brown and executive produced by Sam Mendes and Armando Iannucci, the half-hour comedy premiered in November. A statement from the network praised the trio, as well as the cast, which was “very interesting. We are so grateful to have had the opportunity to work with such an amazingly talented team behind the scenes I Franchise. […] Although we will not be moving forward with another season, we look forward to working with everyone in the future.”
As its title says, Franchise focuses on a film crew working on a film connected to a superhero franchise. Himesh Patel had the lead role as assistant director and closet nerd Daniel Kumar, and fittingly, some of the show’s actors have played superheroes before. Aya Cash, who played Daniel’s role as Anita boys’ Stormfront, with Richard E. Grant and Daniel Brühl were along for the ride at Marvel. Although it seems that he has done well with critics and viewers, Mnqamulajuju noted that the program failed to enter the Top 10 Nielsen rankings during the eight-episode run.
News of FranchiseThe finale comes not long after HBO renewed it Dune: Prophecy sometime before the holidays. The show started just like that Franchise was ending, and for now, they are both available to watch on Max.
