Secret Level’s Armored Core Episode Is A Strong Reminder That We Don’t Deserve Keanu Reeves

Talking to Collider, The secret level creators Dave Wilson and Tim Miller shared their experience working with Reeves on the show Armored Core-centric episode “Inventory Management.” In this episode, Reeves portrays a rugged pilot isolated on a frozen planet, given a mission to end the endless war between himself and the evil organizations that have tormented him for years. Looking back, Wilson and Miller recount their disbelief when Reeves posted a video saying, “Junkie mech pilot. I’m in.”

“I’m going to tell this little story because you hear this all the time in town about how good he is and how prepared he is and how kind and generous he is. He lives up to all those words. I thought, ‘At some point, the facade will fall, and the truth of never meeting your heroes will emerge.’ So, two weeks before filming, we get this email, and it’s like, ‘Dave, Tim, I’ve got some bad news. I broke my kneecap,’ and, and, blah, blah, blah. I look at the bottom of the email where he’s going to tell me he can’t do it, and he’s like, ‘But I read all my lines. I’m out of the book. “I can take off a brush, and I can shoot for five minutes at a time,” Wilson recounted. “And I said, ‘Oh my God, you’re still going to do it.’ And so I say, ‘Don’t worry about it. Keep the brace on. We’re going to make your character limp and tough.’”

He continued: “He shows up, and about two hours after he came in, I can see that it hurts, man. It just happened, and his knee was level with Tim’s head. About two hours in, he’s like, ‘Dave.’ And I say, ‘Do you want to come back tomorrow?’ He’s like, ‘Let’s just shoot it all now.’ And I say, ‘What?’ And he shot 13 hours straight with that brake, and he never left the set. They just growl, smoke, go back inside, it’s like, ‘Let’s do it again!’ Amazing, amazing person. I mean, you have to be lucky in your job that someone will come from the top of the city and do it because they love to do it. “

As if all the aforementioned aspects of Reeves’ work ethic weren’t enough, Wilson also claimed that Reeves filmed his scenes while sick.

“You can tell you have a fever, a runny nose and a cough and everything—just the same,” Wilson said. “It’s not a joke. He shot at everything. It was fun.”

As evidenced by his extensive research for his role as Shadow the Hedgehog in Paramount Pictures’ recently released Sonic the Hedgehog 3it is clear that regardless of the perceived importance of his roles, Reeves fully devotes himself to embodying the character and honoring his obligations, even to the detriment of himself. There is little to add except to continue to praise this man and hope that all his pain is eased and passed on to others.

All episodes of The secret level are now available on Prime Video, and the anthology series has been renewed for a second season.
