For Good Give Its Witches Completely New Songs

That was just a month ago They are not bad began to take the world by storm, and not long since we learned that the second part of it will pass Bad: Because Good. Universal isn’t ready to reveal any sequels yet, but that hasn’t stopped lead actress Cynthia Erivo from singling out some of the changes for the next film, especially in the music.

In a recent appearance on Variety’s Awards Circuit Podcast, Erivo talked about her approach to playing Elphaba, who ends up being a famously wicked witch. One thing he mentioned is working closely with the creator of the show and film, Stephen Schwartz, to develop a brand new song for his character. Without giving anything away, he teased “even the title will shake you up.” I don’t know if you are ready. When we were shooting it, the cast and crew were crying. […] I hope the audience is ready—a song that speaks from the heart of who Elphaba is.”

You may have forgotten, but Schwartz said that in 2022 there will be a pair of new songs for They are not bad the second part is “meeting with [storytelling’s] demands.” The changes to the original film’s music were more about the characters or the setting because it was no longer a stage musical, but the songs were the same. Giving Elphaba and Glinda new songs keeps things fresh for fans of the movie and OG, and making Bad: Good I feel like an event. And it will make those new songs more interesting to come out when the film finally gets its own soundtrack.

But Bad: Good needs to come out first—and will do so on November 21, 2025. If you’ve been waiting to watch the original film at home, good news: it hits digital on New Year’s Eve.
