Gamers can be hard to shop for. Even if you know the type of games they usually play, there is no guarantee that they will like a certain title. But I have no hesitation in recommending it Astro Bot to anyone on your list with a PS5.
I don’t have a ton of time to play games, so I’m careful about which ones I pick (I mostly play any Engadget reviews) so when Jess calls. Astro Bot “one of the best games Sony ever made” I thought was a safe bet. That was an underestimation of me. Delightful: Startling but completely accurate, charming but not lovable. You play as Astro who is tasked with finding his bot friends on various fun planets. Some of those friends dressed up as characters from other video games. The novelty doesn’t just make players happy: in my house, it’s also led to discussions of the game’s history. For example, my husband and son look up Icon after seeing the bots dressed as the two main characters of the game.
The controller itself plays a big role, both on the screen and in the new ways you use it. The game is challenging, but easy enough to pick up that my seven-year-old has gotten deep into it. Honestly, that’s my only complaint. Among all the other people in my house who want to play it, I rarely get the chance.
