28 Years Later Trailer Was Huge, 28 Days Later Makes Digital Comeback
28 weeks later it’s also widely available, if your hunger for millennial zombies remains insatiable.
Maybe it was the large number of followers they had After 28 years trailer replayed to try and see if that was Cillian Murphy playing a zombie (turns out it wasn’t), but the spot has garnered a number of negative comments since its release last week. In fact, the numbers were so high in the Danny Boyle-Alex Garland three-quel that it prompted Sony to give a big push to the first film in the series, in 2002. 28 days later.
According to Deadline, “It’s not just that After 28 years trailer is the most watched horror trailer of 2024 at 60.2M views worldwide, but it is also the second biggest trailer behind Chapter two (96M views, $91M opening). Currently, the After 28 years the trailer has amassed 146.1M views worldwide.” That’s a lot of eyes to see! The views don’t include TikTok, the commercial notes, since TikTok’s viewership numbers can be skewed by movie-studio-small-baseball-inside advertising, which means maybe more people watched the dang trailer more times than reported.
Either way, Sony has it After 28 years coming out from under its umbrella in June 2025—it’s catching the zombie zeitgeist and bringing it back 28 days laterthe first in a series that includes 2007 28 weeks later; the films “were respectively released by Searchlight Pictures and the Fox Atomic labels on the former 20th Century Fox,” per Deadline. For Sony 28 days later will be available for purchase and rental on December 18th, an exciting day for zombie fans who have been dying to revisit the long-lost (physical or digitally) subject.
Good news if you want to make it a double feature: you can stream 28 weeks later on various platforms, including Disney+ and Prime Video. After 28 years hits theaters June 20, 2025.
