ZeniMax Online Studios employees form their own union
Workers at another video game studio have organized their own union. The Communication Workers of America (CWA) announced Thursday afternoon in a statement that 461 employees of ZeniMax Online Studios (ZOS), a studio based in Maryland behind. Elder Scrolls Onlinevoted to form the ZOS United-CWA union of web developers, designers, engineers and graphic artists by a vote of 395-40.
The new union will allow ZeniMax workers to “pursue real advancement” at work and provide “job security amid record layoffs, protections against AI, better wages and benefits,” according to a statement released by the CWA.
“I’m excited to finally see workers have a voice at work,” ZOS United-CWA designer Billy Eichner said in a statement. “We are already working together to make good games. Why don’t we work together to make a great place to work?”
This is not the first time that ZeniMax workers have formed a union. Quality assurance testers at ZeniMax met in January of 2023, making it the largest union in the gaming industry at the time.
Workers at other major game studios have followed the lead of QA workers at ZeniMax by forming their own unions. Sega of American workers unionized last March. More than 500 employees work at Blizzard Military World they voted to form their own union in the summer.
