Sci-Fi Award Season Is Here as Dune, Wicked, and The Substance Get Golden Globe Nods

Could this be the year another genre movie joins the small, exclusive list of Best Picture winning films? Happening in 2018 with The Status of Water and this year there are three films that are now officially big contenders. The Golden Globe nominations were announced on Monday as well Dune: Part Two, The Wickedagain Something all received multiple nominations, including Best Picture. The Globes are often seen as a precursor to the Academy Awards, so if you’re a fan of sci-fi and fantasy, things are about to get exciting.

Dune: Part Two it had several nominations for the group, receiving one for Best Picture – Drama and Best Original Score for Hans Zimmer. The next was They are not bad which received nominations for Best Picture – Musical or Comedy, Best Actress for Cynthia Erivo, Best Supporting Actress for Ariana Grande, and Cinematic and Box Office Achievement. But the top type was chosen Somethingwhich received five nominations: Best Picture – Musical or Comedy, Best Actress for Demi Moore, Best Supporting Actress for Margaret Qualley, and Best Director and Best Screenplay for Coralie Fargeat.

Of course there are a few questions and caveats out there like the difference between the two They are not bad lead, A mound it doesn’t get praise for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement, and it’s always true that the Globes nominate more films because they’re divided into two categories. But these nominations prove that people who vote for awards have seen these three films, they love these three films, and that ensures that they all make it to Oscar night next year.

Additional fares have received nominations. For example, The Penguin get three words. Hugh Grant, Sebastian Stan, and Amy Adams received best actor nods A Traitor, A Different Managain Night dog respectively. Again Squid game got a nod for Best TV Series – Drama, even though it’s not on Netflix until December 26. Gotta love the screens! The House of the Beast and received one nomination: Emma D’Arcy for Best Actress.

The 82nd annual Golden Globe Awards will air on CBS and air on Paramount+ on Sunday, Jan. 5, 2025 at 8 pm EST. Here is the full list of nominees.
