On Saturday, a new photo generator called Aurora was made available to some Grok users, many of whom in X revealed the authenticity of their photos. But as of Sunday afternoon, Aurora seems to be gone. Although it briefly appeared as an option in Grok’s model selection menu as “Grok 2 + Aurora (beta),” it has been replaced by “Grok 2 + Flux (beta).” It looks like the Aurora may have gone public before it was intended. In a tweet in response to one user who shared images of Tesla’s Cybertruck created with Aurora, he said, “This is our internal image generation program. It’s still in beta, but it will improve quickly.”
It comes a few days later, though it has restrictions for non-paying users. Grok’s previous image generator lacked certain restrictions on the types of content it could generate, such as offensive images of politicians and celebrities, and Aurora seems to be very much in line with what we’ve already seen in that regard. played with Aurora for a while before it was taken down and found that it did not reject the prompt to make a “bloody human portrait. [Donald] Trump.”
That’s on top of the shared examples of its X generating images of famous people and copyrighted characters – including a bunch of photos of Sam Altman and Elon Musk, and a photo of a boxing match. But, it would not produce nudity, according to TechCrunch, so that’s something.
