De La Hoya Suggests Schofield WILL NOT Fight Shakur Stevenson In February

Promoter Oscar De La Hoya noted today that Floyd Schofield will NOT fight WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson on February 22. De La Hoya says Hearn will not get “Lower” by choosing “prospect” Schofield as Shakur’s opponent, who is about to fight his first match with Matchroom after signing with them recently.

“Bottom than Bottom”

In this week’s Clap Back Thursday post, De La Hoya blasted Shakur’s Matchroom promoter, Eddie Hear, for wanting to use 22-year-old boxer Kid Austin Schofield as an opponent in his next fight in February.

Although De La Hoya has been tight-lipped about it, it sounds like he will NOT sign his star player, Schofield, to be used as Shakur’s next opponent.

Shakur Stevenson takes the bad news hard, complaining about it to X, knowing he’s lost a snack.

You can’t blame De La Hoya for that because Shakur choosing Schofield is something opportunists movement, taking advantage of an inexperienced fighter rather than an older, more experienced, real threat to him. Shakur is like a bird of prey, looking for endangered food from the ground.

Why Not One Of These Fighters?

– Andy Cruz
– Edwin De Los Santos
– Keyshawn Davis
– Raymond Muratalla
– Frank Martin
– Abdullah Mason

De La Hoya revealed that Hearn could have identified either Raymond Muratalla or Frank Martin as Stevenson’s next opponent after William Zepeda was ruled out of the fight due to a left injury suffered in his final against Tevin Farmer on November 16.

Oscar says this is an example of Hearn not knowing how to build fighters because he is trying to use the “expected” Schofield instead of a seasoned striker like Shakur’s opponent on February 22.

Out of Schofield?

“Shakur Stevenson vs. William Zepeda everything was going to happen until William injured his hand during his fight with Tevin Farmer last weekend,” said Oscar De La Hoya about WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson wanting to fight 22-year-old Floyd Schofield on February 22nd rather than a fighter older, more experienced.

“So, you would think Shakur would start targeting Frank Martin or Mratalla, another world champion, right? No, Shakur and ‘Lonesome Eddie [Hearn] I made an offer to Kid Austin who is 22 years old, who has no experience in the world championship,” said De La Hoya. “This is what I mean when I say Eddie doesn’t know how to build a career.

“Look, Bob Arum built Shakur Stevenson to be a world champion, and in your first fight with Matchroom, you actually want to put him in with hope, Eddie? I didn’t think it would come down to you, but it did.”
