Many stores in the US are closed on Thanksgiving Day to give workers the day off to be with family and friends on what may be America’s most important holiday of the year.

Still, a few retailers stay open because they know shoppers will need to run in at the last minute for an extra stick of butter or can of cranberry sauce (um, that’s me).

And with Black Friday starting even earlier this year, some shoppers may be getting in on some Christmas shopping. This year, many Black Friday deals began long before Thanksgiving, extending a one-day discount into a weeks-long sales event.

What stores are closed on Thanksgiving Day?

All Trader Joe’s, Publix, and Costco and Walmart stores will be closed. Walmart issued a statement that all of its stores will be closed “so that associates can spend the day with their families.”
