Nosferatu’s Popcorn Box Is a Deadly Entry in the 2024 Bucket Arms Race
This Christmas, all the cool kids will be breastfeeding. Suck blood, that is, where they will easily see the darkest release of this holiday season, Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu. It stars Bill Skarsgård as the evil Count Orlok, an immortal vampire whose control over a young couple (Nicholas Hoult and Lily-Rose Depp) has plunged the entire city into chaos.
Local theaters may be in a frenzy because of the film’s promotion. Focus Features revealed that it is partnering with select theaters (it’s not clear which ones, specifically, so check yours) to release a special popcorn bucket for the film. It belongs to Count Orlok’s box. You see a snippet above, see a small video here, and here’s a better picture.
While themed popcorn bucks have long been a thing, the trend saw a huge boost in 2024 with the release of the sex-charged bucket Dune: Part Two. That shone a new light on subsequent buckets from films like this one Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire again Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, and gave Marvel an excuse to make its own sex bucket Deadpool and Wolverine. The buckets have continued since then, most recently with one Gladiator II which uses augmented reality.
This Nosferatu the bucket is where it belongs. A prop from the movie, translated into a popcorn bowl shaped to hold popcorn. All about it. And, with tickets now on sale for the holiday treat, Focus is enjoying even more fun. For example, the seats sold on Fandango appear like movie boxes. How macabre is that?
The seats reserved for ‘NOSFERATU’ at Fandango are boxes.
