Body of missing rabbi Zvi Kogan found in UAE, Israel says
The body of a rabbi who went missing in the United Arab Emirates has been found, the Israeli government said.
Zvi Kogan, an ambassador for the Orthodox Jewish organization Chabad, has been missing since Thursday, the Israeli prime minister’s office said, prompting an investigation by Israel’s Mossad intelligence agency and UAE authorities.
“The killing of Zvi Kogan is an anti-Semitic crime. The State of Israel will work with all its power to bring to justice the criminals who killed him,” the Prime Minister’s office said in a statement.
Israeli officials have been in contact with the family of Mr. Kogan, who is an Israeli from Moldova, since he went missing, the statement continued.
The UAE news agency said the interior ministry has been searching for the missing man and investigating his disappearance.
Abu Dhabi established formal relations with Israel under a US-brokered agreement, known as the Abraham Accords.
It has maintained relations during the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza.
The Israeli government’s tourism advisory service warns citizens to visit the UAE only for “essential reasons”, as they say there is “terrorist activity” in the UAE, which constitutes a “real danger to Israelis living/visiting the country”.
Chabad UAE did not immediately respond to the BBC’s request for comment.
