Apple is changing the way MacBook Pro speakers are replaced and it could make repairs less expensive
It will soon be possible to replace the speakers on the latest MacBook Pro models without having to replace the entire top case, as has long been the process. Memo seen by reportedly informed Apple Stores and Authorized Service Providers this week that the speakers will be available as standalone components for the 14-inch MacBook Pro and 16-inch MacBook Pro with the M4 family of chips. The source also told the publication that this will be an option to repair previous MacBook Pro models with Apple silicon.
The change should make for a less expensive fix. Until now, this process involves replacing the entire top case, including the battery and other components, which seems very expensive. It has been that way since 2016. New steps to replace the speakers are available online now from Apple Support. It may not necessarily be a simple repair – the guide shows the process involved – but not having to change other parts like the battery just to change the speakers should reduce the cost significantly.
