Apple Introduces Final Cut Pro 11 with AI-Powered Tools, Spatial Video Editing, and More

Apple has introduced Final Cut Pro 11, an enhanced version of its flagship video editing software, along with significant updates to Final Cut Pro for iPad, Final Cut Camera for iPhone, and Logic Pro for Mac and iPad. This release is aimed at improving the workflow of professional and aspiring creators, using Apple’s M-series chips and advanced AI capabilities to redefine video and music production.

Video Editing with Final Cut Pro 11

Final Cut Pro 11 for Mac brings a host of new features designed to streamline video editing while introducing advanced creative tools. Key updates include Magnetic Mask, which uses AI to distinguish titles from video without the need for green screens or manual rotoscoping, and the much-anticipated Read to Captions feature, which generates closed captions using Apple’s large language model.

The software also supports local video editing, allowing users to create and refine Apple Vision Pro content. Editors can add effects, adjust the depth of field for titles, and preview content in a virtual environment using the Mac Virtual Display, which will expand later this year to an even wider 32:9 panoramic size.

Apple’s senior director of Worldwide Product Marketing for Apps, Brent Chiu-Watson, emphasized these improvements: “With the power of Apple silicon and the power of modern machine learning, Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro are always faster and smarter. Final Cut Pro 11 leverages the power of Apple’s M-series chips, enabling multi-stream playback of 4K and 8K ProRes video, faster render times, and seamless editing of complex projects. Programmers can benefit from Magnetic Timeline and advanced proxy tools, which create lightweight project files to improve transfer and editing speed.

Other time-saving features include multicam editing to sync and switch between multiple angles and customized export settings with Compressor.

Updates to Final Cut Pro for iPad and Final Cut Camera

The iPad version of Final Cut Pro (2.1) focuses on the first touch editing experience, introducing new tools such as Improve Light and Color automatic adjustments to video and photos as well Live Drawing inks, which allow users to annotate directly on video using watercolor, crayon, and other styles.

Workflow enhancements include expanded libraries, dynamic audio tracks, and haptic feedback for Apple Pencil Pro users. Additionally, support for frame rates up to 120 fps on the iPhone 16 Pro ensures compatibility with high-quality recording.

Final Cut Camera 1.1 offers advanced recording tools for iPhone, such as HEVC encoded video with reduced file sizes, 4K120 fps recording, and LUT preview to visualize HDR scenes during recording.

Logic Pro Enhancements for Audio Professionals

Logic Pro for Mac (11.1) and iPad (2.1) has received updates to empower audio professionals with tools such as Quantec Room Simulatorwhich recreates audibly accurate proverbial effects. Users can also access an improved integrated workflow, including channel reprogramming and enhanced sample management for iPad users.

Final Cut Pro 11 for Mac is available today as a free update for existing users or $299.99 for new users. Final Cut Pro for iPad is available with a subscription for $4.99 per month or $49 per year. Logic Pro for Mac is priced at $199.99, while the iPad version shares the same subscription prices as Final Cut Pro. Final Cut Camera 1.1 is free to download from the App Store.
