Sony will test cloud streaming on the PS5 Portal

Sony says it will be running a beta test of cloud streaming for its PlayStation Portal handheld game. The feature will begin rolling out via updates today, with Europe due to receive it starting on Wednesday. Only PlayStation Plus Premium members will have access to cloud streaming during the beta test, but it’s a promising sign that Sony is finally working on the project, even though it took a year to get here. Adding cloud gaming to Portal addresses one of the biggest criticisms of this handheld, which didn’t seem to have a target audience.

More than 120 PS5 Plus Game Catalog titles will be available in beta testing. That includes a series of games that include Dave the Diver, The wind of Tsushima, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Monster Hunter Rise again Ratchet & Clank: The Rift Apart. No games from the PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 3 will be supported during the beta, but perhaps those will join the program whenever the feature becomes more widely available.

Portal owners may want to know that this update adds a few tweaks to the sound and volume controls. But let’s be honest, cloud gaming is really the point.
