Trump, Musk and new cabinet appointees celebrate at UFC
Donald Trump received a warm welcome as he celebrated his election victory at the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) in New York with Elon Musk and other cabinet appointees.
Trump entered the arena to loud music and cheers from the UFC 309 crowd at Madison Square Garden.
He spent most of the night sitting between UFC President Dana White and Tesla CEO Musk.
Two of Trump’s cabinet picks, Robert F Kennedy Jr and Tulsi Gabbard, as well as Vivek Ramaswamy, who will lead Trump and Musk’s cost-cutting “Department of Government Operations”, were also in the crowd.
Trump greeted podcast host and UFC announcer Joe Rogan, who supported the president-elect after appearing on his show before the election.
Trump waved to fans chanting “USA” as he made his way to the octagon, before clapping and dancing as the UFC played footage celebrating his election victory over Kamala Harris.
Jon Jones, who retained his UFC heavyweight title, then celebrated by walking forward to greet Trump, handing the president-elect his title.
“I want to say a big thank you to President Donald Trump for being here tonight,” Jones said, to a standing ovation from the crowd.
Trump has been a longtime supporter of the UFC, attending many of its live events over the years.
He often receives a warm welcome from fans, although he got boos at a UFC event in 2019, near the end of his first term as president.
White has been one of Trump’s most high-profile supporters.
The UFC president made a speech at the Republican National Convention in July, saying: “I’m in the business of tough guys and this man is the toughest, toughest guy I’ve ever met in my entire life.”
