Alexander Zverev celebrates a successful video review on Saturday in Turin.

A video review led to a call being overturned and a point being replayed in Saturday’s Nitto ATP Finals semi-final between Alexander Zverev and Taylor Fritz.
At 1-0 in the second set, Zverev rushed forward and jumped to take the ball with a backhand swipe. Referee Adel Nour did not call, awarding Fritz a point.
However, in a video review requested by Zverev, Nour dismissed his call and ordered the point to be replayed. Zverev then won a replay point.
When a review call is challenged, the Video Review operator gets the best view of the incident from the available camera angles, and sends the video to a screen attached to the referee’s seat. The referee then reviews the video to determine if there is clear evidence to support the original decision or reverse the decision. If there is no clear evidence, the original decision stands.
Video review was also used successfully last year in Turin. In the doubles match between Ivan Dodig/Austin Krajicek and Maximo Gonzalez/Andres Molteni, Gonzalez converted a volley down the court and was touched by Krajicek, who tried to move his racquet out of the way of the incoming ball. The review showed that he had not touched the ball, the point was replayed.
The video review debuted on the ATP Tour in 2018 at the Next Gen ATP Finals presented by PIF. It was first used at the Nitto ATP Finals in 2020.
