From Side Gig to 6 Figure Success – How to Build a Successful Home Based Business as a Busy Family Man
The views expressed by the business participants are their own.
On a warm July day in 2014, I received a Facebook message from a former classmate. He asked me if I would be interested in translating the website of the place where he worked. I didn’t think much of it at the time, but I gladly accepted, eager to earn a little of my first internet income.
That “gig” didn’t last three months, and I made less than $1,000. But that’s why I’m sitting here today, making over $17,000,000 for clients all over the world and bringing in six figures, all the while still barely leaving my kitchen.
Not only that, but I plan to plan my days around making memories with my wonderful wife and my beautiful 15 month old daughter. Before I tell you how I can live a comfortable life, let’s look at my struggles because it was not all sunshine and roses, especially in the first two years of my career.
Overcoming early obstacles
After the translation gig, I took a three-month position in-house in China, helping the company expand diplomatic ties and missions. Although I loved traveling and exploring the Middle Kingdom, I hated going back to the office. So, three months later, after I returned home, I created my first website, a travel and lifestyle blog. Although it never made me more than $500 a year, it served as a portfolio when I applied for content writing jobs on Facebook job boards.
Six months after creating the website and trying to compete with hundreds of others for every gig I could get, I was able to secure a gig with a local online entrepreneur. That guy later called me “The best copyist in Bulgaria.”
Whether he was right or not, it didn’t matter. His speech greatly strengthened my confidence. We even became good friends. One thing led to another, and two years after our first meeting, we launched an Initial Coin Offering (ICO).
The project didn’t go as well as I had hoped, but I did get a ton of valuable information. I was responsible for everything related to marketing – social media content, email marketing and landing page copy. I helped with branding, led a team of content writers, and even provided customer support.
At the same time, I made my first $1,000 a month writing copy. Things began to improve, but slowly.

The power to invest in your growth
After a very successful 2018, I finally got enough money to invest in my growth. That’s why in 2019, I spent £1,000 ($1,300) on a copywriting course from a guy I’d been following for a few years. In 2020, I invested in his group coaching program, which I am still a member of. In addition, I joined a paid mastermind and bought another course on how to write sales pages that convert.
By the end of the year, I was investing nearly $2,000 every month in coaching, training, and courses. That allowed me to have my first five-figure month in 2021 and multiply my income 7.5 times from 2020 to 2022. The truth was, if I had invested in teaching earlier, I probably would have gotten those results much faster.

Five essential tips for running a 6 person business from anywhere in the world
These days, I always get paid for five months, I choose who I work with, and I can work from anywhere in the world as long as it has Wi-Fi. This allows me to help my wife take care of my 15-month-old daughter while living a wonderful life where we are not tied down to any place.
However, it took me more than five years to reach this level, and I would not have reached this level without a few things that I did.
So, if you’d also like to run a six-figure business while enjoying the freedom and flexibility of working from home, the following tips will come in handy. Imagine being able to take a long lunch break to hit the gym or meet a friend for coffee, knowing you can get a job later. Looking to take a spontaneous weekend trip? As long as you have your laptop and a reliable internet connection, you can work anywhere in the world.
Let’s dive into the tips.
Be consistent
There is no successful person I know who is consistent in what they do. For example, I have been posting on my Facebook wall almost every day since 2014. And I have been working non-stop since 2012. These two things have helped me maintain a positive attitude and build my personal brand over time. .

Don’t focus on money. Focus on the craft
Too many people are only focused on making money. This is putting the cart before the horse. Money is a product of your skills. If you are not good, no one will pay you to do a job for them. But when you get good, money comes easily.
Find a mentor
There is no quick way to grow in any profession without finding a mentor or coach. Learning from their mistakes so you don’t make the same ones and following their expert advice can speed up your progress. And while it often comes at a higher price, every penny invested in your personal development is worth it.
Trust the process
As a freelancer, you will inevitably experience the dreaded “feast and famine” cycles. Do not fight with them; they hugged. They are part of the process. They help you grow faster, as long as you learn the lessons in each period. Because if you don’t? You deserve to repeat those same mistakes.
Never relax
Many people make the fundamental mistake of being free. This is when they stop investing in training. They stop buying courses. And they become confident that they know everything.
Sadly, this is also where things can easily go south. So, if you would like to avoid such unpleasant situations, stay curious and open to learning new things.
Bottom line
These were the things that helped me build a sustainable six-figure business that I could run from anywhere in the world. I have no employees, I work less than 5-6 hours a day, and I don’t even have a virtual assistant (VA).
So, if you would like to achieve the same results, follow the five tips I shared above.
