Zepeda is Ready for the Farmer’s Challenge
William Zepeda (31-0, 27 KOs) realizes he can’t slip away against Tevin Farmer this Saturday, November 16, at Latino Night at The Venue in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Zepeda, 28, knows that Mlimi (33-6-1, 8 KOs) is using him as a stepping stone to a new beginning.
This is the second chance for Farmer, 34, the former IBF super featherweight champion, who was defeated by Raymond Muratalla. If Farmer wins this fight, he will be the opponent of WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson.
The farmer is ignored
“All categories are difficult, but this one in particular has everything. That’s what motivates me and wakes me up every morning to train hard,” said William Zepeda speaking to DAZN Boxing about the good lightweight division.
The lightweight division is stacked with ten ready fighters, with more rising all the time. This is where the fighters’ money comes from.
“It’s an important challenge, when it comes to confirming who William Zepeda is,” said Zepeda of his battle with Tevin Farmer. “We know Tevin Farmer’s skills and experience. We know he’s a strong competitor, even if he hasn’t been playing.
“He knows that this is a big opportunity for him as well. Defeating William Zepeda could open doors for him. That’s what our competitors see: an opportunity to open doors, but we have to stand up and win and keep moving forward,” said Zepeda.
Farmer hopes to defeat Zepeda and put himself in a world title fight against Shakur on February 22 in Riyadh. That could be a big payday for Farmer if he can replace Zepeda as Shakur’s rival.
Zepeda Wants a Tank or Shakur
“We just need the champions to say yes, agree to fight the #1 contender. We have shown that we can fight for the world championship. Now, we just need the fight to be confirmed and the champions to accept it,” said Zepeda.
Shakur has already said yes to fighting Zepeda. That fight will be available to him next February in Riyadh if he wants it. Of course, if Zepeda can get a title shot against Tank Davis, he’ll gladly take it.
“We are excited about the opportunity. I know the door that opens for me, and we will make the most of it. I think it’s a matter of being given the opportunity to fight for the world title. “It’s a really good fight against someone like Shakur Stevenson or Gervonta, which shows what we’re made of,” said Zepeda.
It sounds like Zepeda is hoping for a possible title shot against WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis instead of just defeating WBC’s Shakur Stevenson. He knows the money he can make fighting Tank will be more than fighting Shakur.
