Deontay Wilder Says He’s Battling a Broken Arm in Recent Losses
Former WBC heavyweight champion, ‘The Bronze Bomber’ Wilder, revealed in an interview that he fought with a broken arm in his last two fights, both losses to Joseph Parker and Zhilei Zhang.
Wilder, 39, (43-4-1, 42 KOs) says his pain allowed him to fight with the injured arm, but the results were bad for him, as he lost both contests.
Wilder did not say whether his arm had given him problems in his two knockout losses to Tyson Fury in 2020 and 2021. Those two fights also went badly for Wilder against the overmatched Fury, who didn’t do much outside of leans and jabs. .
Anger seemed like a no-brainer, but Wilder was awful. He made Fury look like gold instead of what he is, an aging club-level fighter with only one win over 39-year-old Wladimir Klitschko.
Excuse for the Broken Arm of the Bronze Bomber
Deontay he has lost four of his last five fightsand his work is on its last legs. It is unlikely that he will be selected again for the other events of the Riyadh Season after being eliminated in the fifth round by Zhang on 1 June. Wilder looked shy and embarrassed against Zhang and Parker. If that was because of his injured arm, it still doesn’t explain why Fury destroyed him twice.
If Wilder wants to rebuild in the big fights, he needs to get some wins under his belt against journeyman-level competition instead of jumping right in with a contender. It would be a good idea for Wilder to ditch his trainer, Malik Scottwho has been with him since 2021. Wilder is 1-3 since hiring Scott, and that’s reason enough to give the coach the boot. Wilder probably won’t, but his career has, and probably will, continue to sink under Malik’s watch.
“I broke my arm back in November. I didn’t know. I had two tears on my shoulder. I was in pain, but I just thought it was an old injury. But I got an MRI, and everything was fine [messed] up there; I didn’t know because I put up with a lot of pain,” Deontay Wilder told TMZ Sports about fighting with an injured arm in his last two fights against Zhilei Zhang and Joseph Parker.
Fans aren’t buying the excuse for Wilder’s injury, seeing it as an example of a striker unwilling to face the harsh reality of his poor career. Since his two losses to Fury, Wilder has been shy and doesn’t fight like he used to.
It would have played better if Wilder had it he covered his mouth and he didn’t say anything about having an injured arm in his last two fights. The injury excuse just makes him sound bad, and he tries to convince the fans that he’s not washed up. Fans have already mentioned how bad Wilder has looked in his three fights with Fury, and he has nothing to say about those matches.
From this point on, Wilder should let his actions speak for themselves instead of blaming his constant defeat on this or that. According to Forbes, Wilder has a decent price $46.5 million. With that kind of dough, he doesn’t need to hide the results of his recent battles.
Ngannou A Possibility
“That’s a conversation I’m looking to get into and talk about,” said Wilder about the possibility of a possible fight with Francis Ngannou.
It is unclear which promoter would fund a fight between Wilder and Ngannou, 38, as it is unlikely that Turki Alalshikh would be interested in putting that fight on one of his Riyadh Season events.
A smaller version of Wilder will be a nightmare for Ngannou, who looked awful in a second-round knockout by Anthony Joshua on March 8 in Riyadh. If Wilder is afraid to throw his right for fear of opposition, he won’t last long against Ngannou because this guy can punch.
