Russia’s Guseva shot a 67, sharing the Lotte Championship lead

HONOLULU — Russia’s Nataliya Guseva shot a 5-under 67 on Thursday to join A Lim Kim, Ruixin Liu and Yuri Yoshida in the second round of the Lotte Championship.

Guseva holed out from 120 yards for an eagle on the par-4 seventh and had four birdies and a bogey in his afternoon round to reach 9-under 135 at Hoakalei Country Club.

“I was really trying to be in the moment because it was so windy,” said the 21-year-old former University of Miami player. “I was like, ‘Anything could happen today.

Kim, the first-round leader, birdied his final two holes of the afternoon with a 69.

Kim is number 65 in the race to the CME Globe, and has just two tournaments left to crack the top 60 and earn a spot in the season finale that pays $4 million to the winner. She won the US Women’s Open in December 2020 for her only LPGA Tour title.

“Today it felt like the wind was changing a little bit every time, every hole,” Kim said. “So, one hole I think is wrong and another hole I think is right. So, that’s golf.”

Yoshida shot 67, and Liu 68.

“I played well in the strong wind today,” said Yoshida.

Liu closed with a birdie on the 3rd ninth.

“I feel satisfied today, especially playing in the afternoon with a strong wind,” said Liu. “I can stay patient and not think too much because the easiest thing to do is to try to adjust my swing more in the wind.”

Ryann O’Toole had a stroke after 66 years.

“I felt very comfortable there,” O’Toole said. “I like windy conditions.”

Auston Kim is one shot behind at 7 under, and shot 66.
