September ushers in whispers of fall and, like clockwork, new iPhones. Apple unveiled its latest iPhone models at an event in Cupertino today, and as expected, the iPhone 16 handsets are largely repeats of last year’s models – with a strong focus on Apple Intelligence. While the standard and Pro smartphone took center stage, Apple also showed the new Apple Watch Series 10, two new pairs of AirPods and detailed hearing aid features coming to the second generation AirPods Pro. The company also provided more details about the new chipsets powering the new iPhone 16 and 16 Pro models, and reminded people about all the Apple Intelligence features coming to iPhones soon in iOS 18. iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus
Apple unveiled the new iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus at the event, featuring a waterproof and dustproof design and new colors including ultramarine, teal and pink. The iPhone 16 has a 6.1-inch display, while the iPhone 16 Plus has a 6.7-inch display. Both can reach 2,000 nits of brightness, and can go down to 1 nit in darkness. The Action button has found its way to this series of iPhones as well, and it’s customizable like the one we saw on last year’s Pro model iPhones.
There’s also a brand-new, easy-to-access camera control “button,” which lets you quickly control the camera with the slide of your finger. This tool can also tap into Visual Intelligence, an AI-powered feature coming with iOS 18 that can tell you more about whatever you’re pointing your camera at. It looks a lot like Google Lens, and can do things like add dates for live events to your calendar after you point your camera at a plane you see on the street. The lineup of cameras on the standard iPhone 16 models includes a 48-megapixel main Fusion camera, a 12MP telephoto lens and a new ultrawide camera with autofocus. This range will also be able to capture Spatial Images that can be viewed on Apple’s Vision Pro.
Both standard iPhone 16 models work on the new A18 chip, which has a 16-core neural engine optimized for production models. Insiders include a 6-core CPU and a 5-core GPU, both of which will be essential in powering all the new Apple Intelligence features coming to iOS 18.
According to Apple, both the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus have larger batteries than their predecessors, and when combined with the added efficiency of the A18 chipset and iOS 18 improvements, it should make for significantly longer battery life (although Apple didn’t .give an exact estimate). Both the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus are available for pre-order today starting at $799 and $899, respectively, and will be widely available on September 20.

iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max
The Pro series of iPhones includes the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max this year, with 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch ProMotion, always-on displays, respectively. Both are made of Grade 5 Titanium, which Apple says is lighter than stainless steel. These phones will be available in four new colors: black, white, natural and desert, the last one resembling a dusty gold color.
According to the company, the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max have been designed from the ground up so that Apple Intelligence can take full advantage of all the new features that come with iOS 18. These phones are powered by the new A18 Pro chipset, using 3nm transistors and is much faster and more efficient than the standard A18 chip found in the standard iPhone 16 system.
The rear camera on both models includes a 48MP Fusion camera, a 48MP ultrawide shooter and a 12MP telephoto lens. The main camera upgrade allows for 4K, 120fps video and slow motion recording. Both phones have a new camera control button that provides easy access to the camera and all its tools, for shooting and editing. There are also four studio-quality microphones built into both smartphones for enhanced audio capture, and they allow for Spatial Audio recording, too.
Both the iPhone 16 Pro series and the standard iPhone 16 phones support Qi2 wireless charging, and Apple will come out with new MagSafe charging cases that include a new camera control button. The iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max will be available for pre-order on Friday, September 13, starting at $999 and $1,199, respectively. They will be widely available on September 20.

AirPods 4
AirPods 4 were launched today during the iPhone 16 event, as the rumors suggested. These have a redesigned bud shape that is likely to fit more ear shapes and is more comfortable overall. They have an H2 chip inside, which will provide improved sound quality and enable features like Custom Surround Sound. The charging case has a USB-C port, and it’s the smallest AirPods charging case to date.
In addition to the regular AirPods 4, there will be a second model that includes support for active noise cancellation and transparency mode. Conversation Awareness will also automatically lower the volume level of your media when the buds detect you talking to someone. Regular AirPods 4 cost $129 and AirPods 4 with ANC cost $179; both are available for pre-order and will be widely available on September 20.

New colors for AirPods Max
Apple didn’t reinvent the wheel with the updated AirPods Max. Instead, they will be available in a few new colors (midnight, blue, purple, orange and starlight) and support USB-C charging. The new colors can be pre-ordered today for $549 and will be widely available on September 20.
New AirPods Pro hearing aid features
Apple has announced new features coming to the second generation of AirPods Pro designed to help prevent (and increase awareness around) hearing loss. A feature called “Hearing Protection” will be activated automatically, and users will be able to take a clinically validated hearing test to see if they have any hearing loss. In addition, AirPods Pro will have a built-in clinical-grade hearing aid feature, which will work with a hearing profile created after the user takes a hearing test.
Apple Watch Series 10
Apple launched the Apple Watch Series 10 today, which is the natural successor to last year’s Series 9. It has the largest display and smallest design ever on the Apple Watch, and the wide-angle OLED display is even larger than the one on the Apple Watch. Ultra. The case has many rounded corners and a wide aspect ratio, both of which, combined with the large screen, should provide more space to interact with images and text on View. Apple says it is awaiting FDA approval, and expects the sleep apnea detection feature to be rolled out in more than 150 countries. Elsewhere on the performance front, the Series 10 will have scuba tracking features and will support the new Tides app in watchOS 11.
Another new feature is the ability to play audio directly from the Watch’s speaker, which can be useful if you don’t have AirPods or another Bluetooth earbud available. The Apple Watch Series 10 will be available in a new polished, jet-black aluminum finish and a new polished titanium finish. It is available for pre-order and will be widely available on September 20.
The Apple Watch Ultra 2 is completely new
While there have been plenty of rumors swirling about the next iteration of the Apple Watch Ultra, the company didn’t reveal the third-generation sports watch today. Instead, Apple unveiled a new finish for the Apple Watch Ultra 2: satin black. There’s also a new Hermes finish, and a new Milanese band with a new black satin finish.
