Amazon will fix the yellow color of the Kindle Colorsoft
While we felt that the Kindle Colorsoft was Amazon’s first solid stab at color reading, there was a problem with the device. After several buyers reported that the yellow band was discoloring under the display, the same problem occurred on our review unit. Now, the company says it is fixing the problem.
“A small number of customers have reported a yellow band at the bottom of the display,” an Amazon spokesperson told Engadget. “We take the quality of our products very seriously – customers who notice this can contact our customer service team for a replacement or refund, and we are making the necessary changes to ensure that new devices will not experience this problem going forward.”
For now, Amazon has delayed shipments of the ereader while it assembles replacement units and new orders, as The Verge first reported. Once you have Colorsoft, you can continue to use it (as long as you can live with the color change) until the company ships a replacement.
The issue was significant enough to remove points from our review until Amazon resolves it. In any case, it’s good to see that the company is acting quickly to take care of this issue.
