WBA International Lightweight champion Floyd Schofield easily defeated Rene ‘El Bravo’ Tellez Giron despite a tough loss on Saturday night at The Virgin Hotels Las Vegas.
In the main event, WBA Inter-Continental Super Middleweight champion Bektemir Melikuziev won a 12-round split decision over David ‘Dynamite’ Stevens.
Schofield (18-0, 12 KOs) defeated ‘El Bravo’ Rene Tellez Giron (20-4, 13 KOs) over 12 rounds.
In the first round, it was all about the tall and fast Schofield. In the second round, Schofield switched to southpaw and had another easy round, while Giron was on the receiving end.
In the third round, both punched wildly, with Schofield claiming he was hit in the back of the head and turned his back on his opponent when referee Thomas Taylor warned him. Giron may have taken the round.
In the fourth round, Schofield continued to take out Giron, who could not deal with Schofield’s hand speed. In the fifth round Giron continued to pressure Schofield but he was being counted out.
In the sixth round, both fighters were warned for hitting the head. Schofield wins the first half of the fight, but it’s not much to the fans’ delight.
In the seventh round, Schofield continues to switch from orthodox to southpaw, giving Giron a boxing lesson but was warned by Referee Taylor for holding one incident.
In the eighth round, Schofield continues to dominate Giron, who is very frustrated coming forward and moving between punches. Between rounds, Schofield’s father’s coach became very frustrated with him.
In the ninth round in the last thirty minutes, Schofield knocked out Giron and then caught him, being warned by referee Taylor. In the tenth round, Schofield seems frustrated that he can’t get rid of Giron.
In the eleventh round, Giron landed a counter hook on Schofield’s miss, dropping Schofield for the first time in his career with an 8-count by referee Taylor.
In the twelfth and final round, Schofield continued to dominate, although he looked a little tired as Giron never stopped trying but completely dominated.
The scores are 118-109, 118-109 and 116-111.
In the fight of the main support, southpaw Meliluziev (15-1, 10 KOs) won a 12-round split decision over Stevens. (14-2, 10 KOs).
In the first two rounds, Meliluziev had his way. In the third round, Stevens fought back, pulling Meliluziev to the canvas in the final seconds.
In the fifth round, Stevens made Meliluziev bleed easily from the nose, taking the round. From the sixth to the eighth round, Stevens had the edge, albeit close.
In the ninth round Meliluziev was cut on the left eyebrow, knowing that he was in the fight. In the tenth and eleventh rounds, Stevens seemed to have the edge.
In the twelfth and final round, Meliluziev outworked Stevens, who may have had to be stopped.
The scores were 116-112 for Stevens, 118-110, and 117-111 for Meliluziev.
IBF World flyweight southpaw champion Gabriella ‘Sweet Poison’ Fundora (15-0, 7 KOs) unified the titles by stopping WBA, WBC, and WBO champion Gabriella ‘La Chucky’ Celeste Alaniz (15-2, 6 KOs) in -1:40 of the seventh round of the program 10 rounds.
In the first two rounds, the long southpaw Fundira used his jab. In the third round, Alaniz came back, making the fight. In the fifth round, in the final seconds, Fundora hit Alaniz in the head with a lead left, but it wasn’t enough.
In the seventh round, Fundora dropped Alaniz with a left hand in the 8 count of referee Robert Hoyle. Seconds later, one went off Fundora and went down again, forcing referee Hoyle to wave it off.
Welterweight Joel Iriarte (5-0, 5 KOs) stopped Xavier Madrid (5-6, 2 KOs) at 2:50 of the first round of the scheduled six rounds.
In the first round, Iriarte had Madrid in trouble early, and in the final minute, a right to the chin dropped Madrid as referee Thomas Taylor waved it off.
WBA Super middleweight Darius ‘DFG’ Fulghum (12-0, 10 KOs) stopped southpaw Christopher Pearson (17-4-1, 12 KOs) at 1:02 of the third round of a scheduled ten round bout.
In the first round, Fulghum dropped Pearson by 8 counts in the final seconds. In the second round, Fulghum defeated Pearson. In the third round, landing more than a dozen punches, Fulghum was declared the winner by referee Mike Ortega.
Bantamweight Jordan Fuentes (2-0) defeated Roberto Cantu Pina (4-5, 3 KOs) in four rounds. The scores were 40-36, 40-36, and 40-36.
Super featherweight Dalis Kaleiopue (6-0, 4 KOs) defeated Manuel Lerna (4-1) over six rounds.
The scores were 60-54, 60-54 and 60-54.
Featherweight Asa ‘Ace’ Stevens (7-0, 2 KOs) defeated Garen ‘Hellboy’ Diagan (10-5, 5 KOs) over six rounds.
The score was 60-54.
