The FBI issued a statement on Saturday about hoax videos circulating before the election, saying it was aware of two such videos that “falsely claim to be from the FBI related to election security.” That includes what they say the FBI has “caught three connected groups committing voter fraud,” including one involving Kamala Harris’ husband. Both display false content, the FBI said.
Disinformation — including the spread of deeply political stories and other types of misleading videos and images — has become a major concern in the run-up to the US presidential election. In its statement to X, the FBI added:
Election integrity is among our top priorities, and the FBI works closely with our state and local law enforcement partners to respond to election threats and protect our communities as Americans exercise their right to vote. Attempts to mislead the public with false content about the FBI’s operations undermine our democratic process and aim to destroy trust in the electoral process.
A day earlier, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) said they would trace two more videos back to “Russian influential actors,” including one that was “fake. it showed people claiming to be from Haiti and voting illegally in many counties in Georgia.”
