Yellowjackets Season 3 Will Dig into Some Big Mysteries
A few years ago, Yellowjackets has become one of the most surprising and talked about shows out there. The Showtime mystery, about a group of friends who crash and survive in the wilderness as children, had an explosive first season followed by a solid, but underrated second season. Now, in a new interview, one of the show’s producers, Ashley Lyle, promises that the third season will bring things that fans have been wondering about for a long time.
“This season is where we start to put those pieces together,” Lyle told Vanity Fair. “It is very satisfying to have things this season that were planned from the beginning. I can’t be specific, I wish I could, but there are a few big things this season that were in the original pitch before we got them out to the networks, that we finally got a chance to do and play. The satisfaction of having something in your mind for such a long time and finally having it happen is very exciting.”
Apparently Lyle is careful not to get into certain things. The biggest mysteries though, especially those that would become part of the game’s DNA, are about what happens in the forest. Questions like who is siding with whom? How did they survive? What beliefs are accepted? Who is the leader and who was sacrificed? The second season answered some of that but many questions are still on the table. Apparently that will change in season three.
“We will learn so much about what happens in the wilderness that they are afraid to go out,” said Lyle. “We hope it will be satisfying and sometimes unexpected. And I think we’ve found ourselves—let me think of how to say this. [Pause] The stakes are very high in today’s storylines, maybe in a way they didn’t feel in season two, and that was really exciting for us to explore.”
Of course, the subtext to that answer is any answers given on the show will raise a lot of questions. But, once again, Lyle confirms at least one solid, true fact about season three: “There are at least two big questions that have very clear answers,” he said.
Hey, we’ll take two. Especially when it comes to the community and beliefs that came from the woods. Everyone just assumed the secret was cannibalism and, well, season two blew that out of the water by tackling it head-on. We expect more mysteries, more suspects, and finally some answers.

The images, which pair actors who play the same character in both time periods, are specifically designed to tease things about this season. A season that, Lyle says, will feature symbolic, and literal, overlap.
Starring Melanie Lynskey, Christina Ricci, Tawny Cypress, Sophie Nélisse, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Sophie Thatcher, Courtney Eaton, Lauren Ambrose, and more, Yellowjackets season three will return in early 2025.
