Crawford Needs to Stay Active for Canelo Fight

Terence Crawford may hang up his gloves if he doesn’t get the Canelo Alvarez fight he’s been waiting for since defeating Israel Madrimov last August.

It is believed that only rain of Canelo’s money will get Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs) out of his bed and into the gym to continue training to continue his career. Nebraska native Crawford has made plenty of dough in his last two fights against Madrimov and Errol Spence.

Therefore, he does not need to go back to work like ordinary people who work for a living. Without the ability to pay bills and support a family, Crawford can sit around and wait for Canelo’s offer to drop from the sky.

“Crawford is talking about retirement if he doesn’t get Canelo,” said analyst Todd Grisham on DAZN Boxing about what Terence Crawford will do next.

“I think it’s Canelo or the explosion,” Ade Oladipo said of Crawford.

“That was always my read in Crawford’s camp,” Chris Mannix said.

“How much money did he make in his last fight, Terence Crawford?” Grisham said.

“I don’t know that. “He was worth about $25 million with Errol Spence,” Mannix said of Crawford.

“What is the motive of going in there with Bhuti really?” Grisham said. “Canelo’s like, ‘What do I get out of fighting this guy?’

“He even told me in the ring why he wanted that Canelo fight. ‘That’s not what I want. It’s a payday that comes with it, a nice paycheck that comes with it,’” Mannix said when discussing Crawford’s reason for wanting to fight Canelo.

Crawford’s reason for wanting Canelo’s fight, which is only focused on money, is why he won’t get it because he forgets that this is a game. To get that fight, Crawford has to consistently compete against the best and fight more than once a year.

Unfortunately, Crawford didn’t stay busy, and he wasn’t fighting the best, except for his match with Israel Madrimov.

“That’s the only fight out there that brings in the kind of money that would get Terence Crawford out of bed, back in the gym, and ready for a big fight. I know that Teofimo is there when he tries to make something happen.”

For Crawford not wanting to stay busy making millions against other fighters not named Canelo is surprising, and shows his lack of desire. Why not? If he wants Canelo to fight bad enough, he can improve his chances of getting one by keeping his reputation high by taking on Jaron Ennis, Vergil Ortiz, Bakhram Murtazaliev, and Sebastian Fundora.

“I know Vergil [Ortiz] “He’s out there maybe trying to do something, but the only guy I think can get Terence Crawford back in the ring is Canelo Alvarez,” Mannix said.

Crawford’s chances against Canelo will be hurt if he stays outside the ring, waiting and hoping that the Mexican star will bless him. It’s not a good sign for Crawford if Canelo’s management hasn’t contacted him yet about putting a fight together for May 2025[nokuhlanganisaimpikaMeyika-2025[puttingafighttogetherforMay2025

If Crawford is going to sit like a bump on a log and hope that the fight will fall into his lap from gravity without having to work for it, he will end up empty handed. All Crawford needs to do to improve his chances of getting a big retirement check is to move up to 168 and fight these three:

  1. Osleys Iglesias
  2. Diego Pacheco
  3. Jaime Munguia

I’d add Christian Mbilli, but he’s had injury issues, and he’s already WBC mandatory for Canelo’s 168-lb title. Billi will not risk that.
