Iga Swiatek she can regain the No.1 position and finish as the WTA’s year-end No.1 for the third year in a row, but to do it the Pole will need to – at the very least – successfully defend her WTA Finals title next week in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Swiatek, the current World No.1 Aryna Sabalenka with 1046 points going into the season finale, it needs to be strong. If she loses two round-robin matches in Riyadh, Sabalenka could be ranked No. 1 by the end of the year with just one round-robin victory.
If Sabalenka wins 3-0 in the round robin, she will defend the No.1 ranking regardless of Swiatek’s result.
It will be an uphill battle for Swiatek. See the standings table below, provided by the WTA.
Play begins in the WTA finals on Saturday 2 November.
