Apple Introduces Apple Intelligence to iPhone, iPad, and Mac with advanced AI features

Apple today announced the release of Apple Intelligence, a new AI-powered personal intelligence system, available through a free software update on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. The update, which includes iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.1, introduces improved features that help users edit their writing, schedule notifications, engage with natural Siri, and remove unwanted objects from photos with the new Cleanup tool. Other features will continue to roll out in the coming months.

“Apple Intelligence ushers in a new era for iPhone, iPad, and Mac, bringing new insights and tools that will transform what our users can achieve,” said Apple CEO Tim Cook. “Apple Intelligence builds on years of innovation in AI and machine learning to put Apple’s productive models at the core of our devices, providing our users with an easy-to-use intelligence system – all while protecting their privacy. Apple Intelligence is productive AI as only Apple can deliver, and we’re incredibly excited about its ability to enrich our users’ lives. “

Advanced Writing Tools for All Devices

Apple Intelligence introduces the system’s Writing Tools that allow users to rewrite, recheck, and summarize text across iOS, iPadOS, and macOS. Features include Rewrite, which allows users to adjust the tone with options such as professional, concise, or friendly. Proofread provides suggestions for grammar and sentence structure, complete with explanations, and Summarizing provides text in paragraph, bullet point, table, or list form.

A Natural, Conversational Siri

With Apple Intelligence, Siri gets a big boost, becoming more natural and conversational. Users can type in Siri at any time on iPhone, iPad, and Mac and seamlessly switch between text and voice. Siri now keeps context across multiple requests, answers thousands of questions about Apple product features, and can provide guidance on settings and functions.

Advanced Photographic Skills

The Photos app now supports natural language search, allowing users to find photos and videos by describing the content, such as “Maya skateboarding in shirt tie-dye.” Additionally, a new Cleanup tool allows users to remove unwanted objects from images, improving viewing quality while preserving authenticity. The Memories feature can now create custom movies based on descriptions, selecting and editing photos and videos to create a story.

Focused Notifications and Advanced Mail Management

Apple Intelligence introduces Important Messages in Mail, helping users focus on the most important emails by highlighting urgent items like same-day invitations or boarding passes. The Summarize feature shortens long threads, while Smart Reply provides quick responses to emails. A new notification summary feature on the Lock Screen highlights important information from a long string of notifications.

Other Upcoming Features

In December, more Apple Intelligence features are expected, including improved Writing Tools that can convert text into various styles and formats. The new virtual intelligence experience will provide object and location recognition through Camera Control, helping users quickly learn about nearby locations or objects. Apple Intelligence will also introduce Genmoji and Image Playground, allowing users to create custom emoji and playful images with simple text descriptions.

Privacy – The First Way

Apple Intelligence prioritizes user privacy, using on-device processing for many features. When more processing power is needed, Private Cloud Compute ensures that user data remains secure and inaccessible to Apple, with independent experts regularly testing Apple silicon server code to raise privacy standards. Users can also access ChatGPT features in Apple Intelligence, with built-in privacy protection.

The first Apple Intelligence features are available now for iPhone, iPad, and Mac as a free update. Language support will expand in December, including local English in Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, and the UK Additional language support will follow in April 2025.

Apple Intelligence is available on iPhone 16 series, iPhone 15 Pro models, iPads with A17 Pro or M1 and later, and Macs with M1 and later.
