Devin Haney Wants Turki Alalshikh to do the Catterall Fight

Devin Haney posted on social media that only Turki Alalashikh can make a fight between him and Jack Catterall happen.

Former two-division world champion Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) is obviously hoping for a big payday in a fight against the top-ranked Catterweight (30-1, 13 KOs). Twelve round unanimous decision win over Regis Prograis last Saturday night in Manchester, England.

It is not a good time for Turki to use Haney in one of his Riyadh Season events, given that he will lose to Ryan Garcia. Paying Haney millions to fight a fighter with a dull style like Catterall would be a cup of poison fans. Haney probably thinks he can do a lot to fight Catteral.

It’s not clear if Turki would be interested in a fight between newly minted fighter Haney and Catterall because they mirror their images with their best-of-breed, on-the-foot styles. If I were a Turk, I would only give Haney fighters exciting styles that fans around the world would pay to see.

A fight between the two won’t attract as much interest in the events of the Riyadh season in Turkey as other possible matchups. It would be more fun to see Haney fight Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis at 147 or Brian Norman Jr than Catterall with his boring Shakur Stevenson style of fighting.

Using Catterall as Haney’s opponent would be a waste of money for Turki because there are fighters American fans would rather have him fight. Catterall is not one of them. Despite his victory over the Regis Prograis made to order last Saturday night, he still appears to be on the British stage.

Haney is more fun to watch than Catterall. On a scale of 1-10 entertainment for the lowest, Catterll is a 1 and Haney is a 5.
