Scores were injured after a truck hit a traffic stop in central Israel
Dozens of people were reported injured after a truck rammed into a bus stop near an Israeli army camp in what was suspected to be a deliberate attack.
At least six people are in critical condition and others are still trapped under danger at the scene of the incident in Glilot, north of Tel Aviv.
Police say the circumstances of the incident are still under investigation.
But local reports say armed residents in the area shot and “stopped” the truck driver after he deliberately ran into people.
Israeli television channels showed police cordoning off the area as paramedics attended to the injured and a helicopter hovered overhead.
“At 10:08 AM, a report was received at MDA’s 101 Emergency Call Center in the Yarkon district about a truck hitting a bus stop on Aharon Yariv Boulevard in Ramat Hasharon.
“MDA EMTs and paramedics are currently providing on-site treatment to many injured people,” Israel’s emergency services said in a statement.
A spokesman for the Israeli emergency services quoted by the Israeli newspaper Haaretz said that most of the injured were elderly citizens who got off the bus before visiting the nearby Israel Defense Forces (IDF) base in Glilot.
