It’s not a two-man match in the Zozo Championship, but it feels that way. Especially considering the two men at the center of the plot — longtime pros Nico Echavarria and Justin Thomas — each bring an interesting narrative to the table.

Echavarria, of course, has been riding a hot season, following his T11 finish at the inaugural Black Desert Championship with a 54-hole lead in Japan. He strives not only to be among the top 125 on the PGA Tour (the most important metric used to judge full-time membership), but also to stay as close to the top of that list as makes sense after the fall season. , considering invitations to top golf events are given to those at the top of the list.
If Echavarria is going to take that win, he’s going to need to find a rabid fan favorite, Justin Thomas. Thomas hasn’t won an event in 2.5 years, and is eyeing a big win Sunday at Zozo in what could be his final full field event of the 2024 season.
